Atlantic City Collector Car Show And Auction

Where - The Atlantic City Convention Center, Atlantic City, NJ

When - February 21-24, 2002

Overview - The Atlantic City Convention Center is enormous in size.  I've seen it noted at 10 acres and 12 acres.  Even if you take the smaller figure the number of cars that can fit inside is staggering.  Roughly 2/3 of the space was taken up by cars to be auctioned off and the remaining 1/3 was dedicated to vendor booths.  It takes about 4-5 hours to see it all.  CJ pony parts had a large booth and  several smaller Mustang vendors had booths also.

Mustangs were well represented in the pack although about half of them were 65/66 convertibles.  Some notables include a 68 GT500 with 30 original miles (see picture below) and a 1970 Boss 302.  There was even a 73 sportsroof and a 73 convertible for the 71-73 enthusiasts out there.

The auctions that I observed didn't go well.  The bids stopped well below the reserve prices and the cars with no reserve were sold at bargain prices.  I attribute the weakness to the fact that these were among the first auctions held and they took place early in the afternoon on a Thursday.  I suspect that the cars will garner more interest when the event gets into full swing on the weekend.

This is a shot from the spectator stands in the auction area.  I couldn't come close to getting the entire place in the picture but you get the idea.
Here's the 68 GT500 with 30 original miles.  I would have liked to stick around to see how much it went for.
An homage to Teebone.  One of the Black Bird's relatives.
Here's the cockpit of a Hummer.  This picture really doesn't do it justice.  The controls kinda wrap around the driver and the area between the driver and passenger seats, where a console normally goes, is probably more than 2 feet wide.  I'm not a big Hummer nut but it was pretty cool.
These Shelbys were located in the vendor area.  They were for sale at a fixed price and not up for auction.  IIRC the blue 69 GT500 was priced in the mid 30s and the green 67 GT350 was priced in the low 40s (I hope I got the years and styles right).  The 64 1/2 convert in the back was priced in the low 20s I believe.
